Uncover Castle Rock’s story with a free family scavenger hunt
Discover the history of Castle Rock and the stories that have shaped our Town with the annual Scavenge the Rock scavenger hunt.
In celebration of Historic Preservation Month, the Castle Rock Museum, Downtown Merchants Association, Historic Preservation Board and the Town have partnered to create a scavenger hunt designed to help participants learn about the history of our community. Do you know what current café ceiling still holds a memorial to a Town marshal from 1946? If so, here’s how to play along:
Between Sunday, May 1, and Friday, June 3, pick up a clue sheet at the Castle Rock Museum, 420 Elbert St. Spend the afternoon, or several days, trying to answer the questions and complete the scavenger hunt. Participants will scan a QR code on a plaque at several historic locations to complete the task. Also, several Downtown businesses are participating. Scavenger hunters will receive stickers from those businesses to include on their clue sheet and earn points. Return the completed clue sheet to the museum for a chance to win prizes – including gift cards to local businesses, Summer Concert Series tickets and more.
Please note, the museum is open from noon to 5 p.m. Wednesdays through Fridays and 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturdays. There will also be a box out front to pick up the clue sheets. Completed clue sheets should be dropped off during normal museum hours. Also, some of the participating businesses are not open on the weekend. Please check hours before heading out.
The scavenger hunt will run for the entire month. Participants must earn at least 130 points to be entered into the prize drawing. The drawing will be 1 p.m. Saturday, June 4, at the museum. You do not need to be present to win, but there will be an additional prize drawing for attendees.
